Michigan Monday: Lost on The Court

This Michigan Basketball team is fun to watch when the 3's are raining down on a opponent.  It's not so fun when their not and the opponents are.

There is also another big issue that Michigan has let to figure out.  There is plenty of "tape" out there now on how to shut the Wolverines down and specifically Nik Stauskas.   Michigan found both above rules to be true against a gritty Wisconsin Badgers team on Sunday.   The Badgers out shot the Wolverines from 3 and dominated the lost post.    If you have never seen Frank Kaminsky, he looks like a Frank Kaminsky.  Yesterday, he played liked Kevin McHale and there wasn't anything Morgan or Horford could do about it.

The Wolverines would have gotten completely blown out of the game if not for Caris LeVert's career high of 25 points which alone kept Michigan in the game in the second half.   The rest of the Wolverines were completely ice cold from the floor and instead of feeding the "hot" player continued to miss shots of their own.

I know you have noticed but Michigan is really missing Mitch McGary right now through the dog days of the Big Ten.  Michigan is getting out rebounded and the law firm of Morgan and Horford are not showing as well as they did a month or so ago.  They also miss his hustle and energy on the floor, there are times the Wolverines look completely lost on offense and lack intensity on defense.   As we know, those are two McGary strengths and the reason why he played so well late last year.

There wasn't anything pretty that happened in Crisler on Sunday afternoon.   Though, State lost to Nebraska and the Wolverines are still tied for the lead in the Big Ten.  So they have that going for them.  As MSU comes to town next Sunday for another re-match.

  • Burke and Damian Lillard combined to win the NBA All Star Skills Challenge on Saturday.

  • Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 36 points in the NBA Rising Stars Game.

  • Former Michigan WR David Terrell was cleared of drug, battery charge:  "I felt like I got my life back a little bit," Terrell said after the verdict was announced.

The painful thing about Sunday's game was the reality that Ind. beat us by hitting threes, mostly uncontested... Wisconsin beat us by driving the lane, mostly uncontested.....

We are horrible on defense, and to start the year our defense was smothering.... hard to figure what is breaking down.

I also think Nik needs to shoot, the only way a cold shooter gets hot is by making baskets. Nik was hesitating when he had open looks, then freezing and making bad passes.
To quote The Great One, you won't make 100% of the shots you don't take.

I hope we find some swager somewhere, soon.

Go Blue!

Live by the 3, die by the 3. In today's basketball you need good outside shooting. However, you also need a post game. McGary is sorely missed.

We have enough talent that we shouldn't need to rely on 3's to win. GRIII, Nik, Mor-fort are all very capable of getting looks down low. GRIII and Mor-Fort can post up, Nik and Walton are effective driving.... we just don't do it enough!!

Mitch is definately missed!
