Remember when I asked, "is the pass rush a problem?" It is. We will dive deeper into that in the Cheers and Jeers as Michigan showed Corum and got a W over the underdog Maryland Terrapins.
Cheers:
- Michigan won the F'ing game
- Blake Corum kept Michigan in the game
- Mazi Smith played well
- The two picks were very important and very athletic plays
- Roman Wilson is a very good WR
- The secondary played well for the most part
- The make shift offense line gave JJ time and opened huge holes for Blake
- TE's had a good day!
Jeers:
- Some terrible play calling
- Early in the game - passing when the run was wide open
- No reason for a trick play
- Never hand off to a freshman RB in an important situation. Michigan has some type of fumble jinx on freshman and fumbling.
- 3rd and 4 and handing off to a walk-on RB
- Not adjusting earlier to Maryland's zone
- Moody, if you're going to be the best kicker in the country, you have to make a 43 yarder
- JJ - if nobody is open, tuck and run or throw it away
- Pass rush is a big issue. Michigan is having trouble getting pressure with the front 4
- I don't know how to announce #18's name - I will just call him Vowels. He needs more snaps
- The blitz has to get home and leaves the field wide open if it doesn't
- Need more stunts
- I don't love blitzing DB's against a passing team
- Wow, Michigan missed Edwards today
- Ball was on the ground way too much
- Rumor mill is that All could have a back issue
- JJ's deep ball was not accurate today
- Mistakes, poor play calling on both sides, turnovers, a face mask penalty, kept Maryland in the game
- Raise your hand if you knew EMU had an All-American type kicker last season?
- Fox's images were all messed up, wrong time, wrong down and distance, etc.
Michigan has plenty to work on in practice before a trip to Iowa and then to IU in 2 weeks. I expect these miscues to be cleaned by next Saturday. Don't get me wrong, Maryland is getting better week to week and was a lot better than the team I watched play SMU last week. With that said, I thought Michigan allowed the game to stay close with its own issues.

What did we learn today? Well, playing 3 cupcakes and having your starters not play 4 qtrs in 3 games is a recipe for coming out flat. What else? Why JJ wasn't a starter sooner. Waaaaaaaay to loose with the ball. Easily could of had 4 turnovers. Luck of the bounce on fumbles and they went our way. OC(s) need work. And I seriously hope this dual-coordinator thing is just another Michigan misdirection under Harbaugh. If not, prepare to get bit in the ass at least once by this this season. Play calling was....well.....weird at times. Blake Corum is the effing MAN! Singlehandedly picked up the offense and carried it today. We also missed Donavan Edwards as CJ Stokes fumbled away his only touch and I'm assuming was glued to the bench for the remainder of the game. The staff must not trust or think much of Tavierre Dunlap and Gash is just to light to be a 3rd and short RB. Schoonmaker had a nice game, but they missed Erick All. Defense needs work. I thought they played better in the 2nd half, but they really got to work on keeping containment when rushing the QB. Seen too many times already this season QBs getting loose and running for big gains. If Blake Corum is the offensive MVP for the game, then I'd give the defensive MVP to MIke Sainristil. Hot take alert: so far he's everything Jabril Pepper was not. Go ahead haters: HATE. Is Mike the physical specimen Peppers was? NOPE. But he just makes plays. If you'd of told me his switch to defense would of gone so smoothly, I'd of told you, you're effing nuts. Dude just goes out and balls!
We kept Mary in the game, for sure. Esp 2nd Q and late 4th. That last TD was pretty bad.
But, it was our first real test, so I’m happy that it didn’t spiral. 3 years ago, we prob lose that game. I’m all for
getting a little test, and then adjusting. Key is the adjusting. Has to happen, or else IA or IU could be ugly.
I don’t want All out too long, but we are deep at TE. Donovan needs to return now!!
I’m high on Sanistrill too. Move to D was perfect for him.
Yes, 18 needs more snaps. I still think Moody is the best kicker in the country.
I admit that I drank the "Blue Kool-Aid", and thought we were invincible! But I kept looking at Maryland and they looked like us. Now we are all back down to where our feet touch the ground.
Congrats to Corum ..... I would like to know how the O-line grade out > did they help him considerably, or much of the work was on his own?
Death to "Sparty", but when they play us they will come back to life! A win, is a win, is a win ..... look at Texas, Georgia beat a piss-ant team but not decisively (by the score) Harbaugh has work to do, but it is doable.
Man, I’m happy we don’t play Minn this year.
Justin do you see us losing a game or two this year?
Look for life
Whatever happened to MULLINGS as a running back?? He had a great spring game…showed very good power. Would make a great short yardage option even after Donavon gets healthy??
WTF? Purdue barely beats the fearsome "Owls", Oklahoma and Texas receive "beat-downs"; Miami is embarrassed (years gone by when they were fearsome") Love the upsets (as long as it isn't us on the receiving end)
Yeah, MIA losing is crazy. ND didn’t look all too strong either, and neither did Nike U. Hope we’re still recruiting some of those commits.
And yes, Bucknut, I think Mich likely loses a game or two. PSU and Ohio being the two biggest risks. That said, if our D develops, and JJ progresses as a starter, I also think we can end the regular season undefeated.
Saw some people throwing shade on JJ given a rough game. But that’s odd to me. How can you start your first real game and play perfectly. I’d be more afraid of that then of his play yesterday
I should've included Sainristil in the Cheers, he had a good game and his transition to defense has been unbelievable.
