Wolverine Wednesday: Cade's Decision

As Michigan fans we owe Cade a very strong thank you for leading Michigan to a Big Ten Championship.  If you remember, Michigan was in a bad spot after the continuous struggles by Joe Milton and Cade stepped in and with a strong running game and righted the ship.

The next year, Cade struggled, got injured, lost the starting job, and jumped into the portal.  I don't know how many opportunities he had in the portal but the Iowa decision was an interesting one.   The top two thoughts had to be:

1. Iowa has a great defense and a terrible offense.  If I can go in there and improve the QB play we will win a ton of games in a very winnable Big Ten West.

2. If that terrible offense continues next season, it will hurt my career and Iowa will continue to be a laughing stock under Brian Ferentz.

We learned this off season that Cade doesn't lack confidence in himself.  Which I'm sure lead him to take on the Iowa opportunity.  That confidence is now driving the Iowa offense that got shut out in a rainy white out on Saturday night on national TV.

The first 3 games were ok but the offense struggled.  Iowa also got some WR's out of the portal and through 4 games the entire WR room has 14 catches for 148 yards.  Brian Ferentz has a 25 point per game average in his contract to keep his job next year.   Outside a good 2nd half against Western Michigan, things are not going very well.

Cade had this quote yesterday: “I mean, I’m just a quarterback. I’m not calling the plays or doing any of that. That’s not my decision. I’m just going to run the play, and I’m going to throw it to the open guy,” McNamara said.

Iowa can get healthier this week as they face the embattled Spartans.

I think Cade, is finding out he doesn't have the receivers at Iowa that he had at Michigan doesn't have quite the same talent around him

I'm pretty sure he already knew about the lesser talent.

I will share the inside scoop on Cade with my fellow Bighouse Bloggers. Word was back in J.J.s Freshman season, J.J. went to Cade and asked him for advise. Cade never helped him. He didn't even respond to J.J., basically ghosting him. This is what led J.J. to post the infamous Twitter post about Cade hanging from a cliff with the caption, 'Don't let your ego weigh you down'. Teammates were aware of the situation and didn't like it. That's why if you looked closely during the following season, when Cade and J.J. split games starting and auditioning for the starting job, you will notice the blocking was not stellar for Cade. In fact, it was weak. No one will ever come out and say it was deliberate, but you could certainly draw the conclusion that it was. Cade had worn out his welcome by this time, and the rest is history. J.J. is now the man.

Brady,
Don't doubt what you're writing, but that year they also elected Cade captain. Right? So the team liked him.

If what you heard is right, I suspect unfortunately that is more common than not. But, I also would be surprised if JJ did that, as he seems like a special breed of dude.

GoBlu-

I have a friend with a relative on the team. Facts. J.J. had nothing to do with anything, he's a good kid. Just saying his O-line liked him more than Cade. Keep in mind there are over 100 players on the team that vote for team captain. Not all of them disliked Cade except those in the know. I can't say any more about the situation. Go Blue!!

Brady,

I've heard similar things about Cade, that he wasn't a team player and wasn't universally liked. Did he have his supporters on the team? Sure, if he didn't he would of had to been a real monster. His body language after JJ became the start spoke volumes. He almost looked mad that JJ was doing so well

Don't blame Cade for leaving, but do so with your head up and don't throw shade on the way out. He felt he had to make a couple of nasty comments so that's when he was dead to me.
Today $party fired Tucker as expected, but here's the comical part; they said in a letter "for bringing ridicule to the program". Wait....seriously? So gang raping a couple of our smallest players in the tunnel after getting the $*#! out of them on the field didn't bring ridicule? The program in lansing is the very definition of ridicule, you can't blame the man for that. In fact, given his lack of a moral compass and discipline, he was the right fit at sparty.

Chowman- Yep. You are correct. I mean no one is gonna come out and air the team's dirty laundry, that wouldn't benifit anyone. But ya, Cade should try to take the high road, for sure. Cade had a wonderful legacy here at Michigan. Sure, I'd be upset too if I lost the starting job, but that's big time sports for you. It'll be like that in the pros, too. Tom Brady didn't let it bother him, it galvanized him. Made him better. Hopefully Cade matures and learns from his set backs.

Rudy- State is a mess. Gonna take years to clean all that up and get back to respectability. And I thought Michigan had it bad with Hoke. That was NOTHING compared to Tuck's disaster. Go Blue!

Normally I'd agree with ya Brady, but Pedophile State broke that model of a years-long rebuild. If any program deserved to burn it was that one. Yet, with some booster $$, they got back on track in just a few years. Might even say the same with The Cockeye U....they should have been burned multiple times but $$ and connections kept them alive and well. The real story behind the Tucker firing is they were hoping a noose would be out there that he'd stick his head in. They knew quickly they paid for a ferrari and got a ford fiesta. Squeezed all the juice out of that orange in year 1 and stuck with the rhine. I'll settle for simply stomping their sorry asses in a few weeks, then having the players line up at the 50 and take a steamy piss on their field!
