Michigan Tuesday: No Apologies

With the draft NOA released by ESPN reactions have been coming in from all over the place, including the current LA Chargers head coach, Jim Harbaugh: "Never lie. Never cheat. Never steal. I was raised with that lesson," Harbaugh said at a press conference. "I have raised my family on that lesson. I have preached that lesson to the teams that I've coached. No one's perfect. If you stumble, you apologize and you make it right. Today, I do not apologize. I did not participate, was not aware nor complicit in those said allegations. So, for me, it's back to work and attacking with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind."

I guess that is pretty clear.  Adam Schefter also spoke to Sherrone and said he is feeling comfortable about the process and potential outcome.  Even Pete Thamel from ESPN who has been loosely reporting this story for a year, considered the likely outcome a big fine for Michigan and back to football.

Some of the recruiting violations include a $100 donation to a charity golf tournament and helping a recruit get more IG followers.  There are investigators at the NCAA who get paid to investigate these things?  To quote Caddyshack: Don't you guys have homes?

The best outcome is a quick resolution for all parties.  Even Michigan's rival fan bases who need to focus on this year, not last.

  • Ken Grant makes Bruce Feldman's Freak List for 2024.  Well deserved
  • The Wagners continue to advance in basketball with Team Germany and just beat The Greek Freak today.
  • Michigan comes in at #8 in the Coaches poll.  OSU #2, Oregon #3, Texas #4, PSU #9, and Iowa #25.

I get where this is going. Harbaugh was the CEO of the program and in business CEO is responsible for everything that the corporation does. At this point, its just silly. If I was Harbaugh I'd of said, I'm not answering anymore questions regarding Michigan. I'm now the HC of the LA Chargers and will only answer questions related to the Chargers...PERIOD!

Fans of other programs are ALWAYS going to look at something like this and act as if Michigan committed the most heinous act in the history of sports. After all it excuses their teams coming up short. "We didn't lose, Michigan cheated!" I'm pretty certain, from the first time a couple of humans decided to compete over something, one, if not both tried to cheat. It's human nature to try and gain an advantage and how ALL rules come about. IMHO if you're not cheating, you're not trying to win. If you're not pushing the envelope, you're not trying hard enough.

Having scouts at opponents games is business as usual in the NFL. College football has evolved into NFL lite! You pay your players (NIL). You allow free agency(transfer portal). So why stop there. It's a billion dollar business and stopped being about student athletes at least 2 decades ago. This isn't the end, someone else is going to take it a step further. The reason other programs are so butt hurt about it is they didn't think of it first, or if they did, didn't have the balls to take it to the level Michigan did. Not apologizing that my motto has always been: Go big or Go home!"

Paul Finebaum seems to have made a 180 on Michigan after having the oppportunity to spend a week with the team in Pasadena. On many occasions, he's mentioned how impressed he was with Corum, McCarthy, and others. If Michigan hadn't played Bama, I think Finebaum would be playing up Thamel's click bait. Because he got the chance to interact and actuallt get to know the Michigan players and staff, he appears to be doing what he can to help protect the team's legacy.
