Wolverine Wednesday: Slip and Slide

  • Update on Brandon Ifill recruitment: Pitt, Maryland, Michigan, West Virginia and Rutgers are his top five choices, but Maryland is No. 1 on his list. He plans to visit Maryland and Michigan in September. Maryland is recruiting him as a receiver. Cullen Christian is considering a few of the same colleges as you. What are the chances of you and both going to the same school? At first, we were banking on going to the same school, no matter where it was. Now that we're seeing the whole process, we're different people. We do compare our thoughts, but we're not banking on going together.

More News and Notes from Practice:

  • Players and coaches cooled off after practice on Tuesday by using a giant slip and slide.
  • Greg Mathews had a long punter return.
  • WR Darryl Stonum stretched out and caught a 37-yard pass from QB Nick Sheridan.
  • Running back Brandon Minor scored an eight-yard TD run and back Carlos Brown added another rushing score.
  • Martavious Odoms added a touchdown reception during the scrimmage.
  • Former players Stan Edwards, Tom Brigstock, John Ghindia, Jeff Cohen, Marten Davis, Rick Leach, Tom Parkhill, Michael Taylor, Chuck Ritter and Don Eaton attended practice.
  • Legendary coach Don Nehlen (and RR mentor) was at practice Tuesday, hanging out on the field and touring Rich Rodriguez's new office. Nehlen coached Michigan's quarterbacks under Bo Schembechler as well as serving as head coach at Bowling Green and West Virginia. Rodriguez became West Virginia's head coach in 2000 following Nehlen's retirement.

On a side note, Don Nehlen is probably the reason RR is at Michigan. RR asked Don about the Michigan job and he pretty much told him that there isn't a better job in college football. Which there isn't of course.
